And distracting. At the service I went (Springs church) I’m trying to focus on the words “my eyes are upon you,” instead I’m getting blinded by the flashing lights and the smoke. Seriously?
I recently… well, this year… well, not this year, but within a year… I’ll start again.
Sometime late last year, I went to a Methodist church. They had both a contemporary and a traditional service. I went to the traditional. The message was crap, and the contemporary stuff bled into the traditional service (I guess they wanted to get their money’s worth out of special guest musicians), but I was struck by how much impact the old hymns backed by a solid pipe organ had on me.
I currently have a church where I attend a Sunday school class, but I don’t tithe or otherwise support the church itself. It’s far too churchian for that. And once the current book study is finished, I’ll likely move on.
In the mean time, my tithe hearts Soldier’s Angels. It’d be nice to find a decent church, though.
Salvation Army is a pretty good tithe too, especially when it comes to relief efforts. I have to admit the same reaction to traditional music myself, without all the contemporary drama and flair, it’s less distracting and easier to focus on the worship itself.
1 cor 5:9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister[c] but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”[d]
I stopped going a long time ago! I tried and tried to find s real church home but these ppl are phoney they are snobs some are just evil and you think I’m safer at home.
I hate contemporary christian music. Its sooo gay.

Parodies are quite close to the truth in some instances.
So close to be almost identical based on my recent experience too.

Agreed.
