Track sharks in real time to see how close you can get to being eaten

Discovered a seriously cool real time shark tracker, brought to you by the folks at OCEARCH.  Just out of curiosity, I dug out the tracking path for the mother of all sharks (Great White) to see what she’s been up to:

Great White Shark Tracking Map

OMG.  Let’s see:  Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.  Remind me to never go within 5 miles of the water when visiting those states.  Just to be safe.

Actually make that 10 miles.

    Sharks….meh…what’s a fin?

I hear it’s some kind of Scandinavian currency…

Here’s where I get to be “Little-Miss-Smarty-Pants” because I lived there as a little girl ….

Finland is neither geographically or ethnically part of Scandinavia (and Finns get REALLY hostile if you refer to them or their country that way)

Before they caved to THE MAN, their form of currency was the “markka”

I had a cross-country ski trail running through my back yard and we used to buy fresh fish right out the boats as they pulled up to the steps in the harbor in downtown Helsinki. It was a very cool place to live.

Wow, that does sound like a cool place to live. For some odd reason portside towns always appeal to me, but not the beaches. I blame nudists and sharks for that paradox.

You know, I am just NOW noticing that your little arrow thingie is pointing to Chucktown. Just to put your mind at ease that I’m not anytime soon going to become shark-bait (and thus deprive you of my presence on your blog), some of us (me) put a swimming pool in the back yard thereby reducing the amount of grass to be mowed and reducing the likelihood of becoming shark-snack. I’m sure you feel better now.

That wouldn’t stop the ghost shark though…. O_O

You DID NOT just go there!

    • Frank Swift September 6, 2013 at 5:36 PM #

You had to know that was coming…

My friend posted on my FB page last night…..

“9:00 PM on SyFy…..”Ragin’ Cajun Redneck Gators”…..it has YOU written all over it”

Doesn’t he understand that Gators (even Cajun Redneck ones) are not sharks? Granted they both have big teeth, and SC has plenty of both (or at least the gators), but really….

      Gators = Land Sharks

Man oh man, I forgot once upon a time Saturday Night Live used to be funny.

    • Maeve September 6, 2013 at 7:10 PM #

My parents wouldn’t let me watch it, but sometimes I would sneak downstairs and turn it on really low when they went to bed. And of course, any Sat night spent at a friend’s house involved clandestine viewing of the forbidden fruit (so to speak). Good Times. LOL

    • Frank Swift September 6, 2013 at 7:22 PM #

My forbidden fruit were the Three Stooges (with Curly), simply because I imitated too much of what they did in real life.

    • Maeve September 6, 2013 at 8:06 PM #

Yep – we weren’t allowed to watch the Three Stooges either. My brothers loved that show.

Heh, reminds me of these old commercials:

    • Maeve September 10, 2013 at 10:01 PM #

      I had forgotten about those

    • Frank Swift September 10, 2013 at 11:23 PM #

Back when commercials still had form. ;-)
