I’ve been exploring cabin rental possibilities in Colorado for a getaway this April, but I’m really inclined to just drive somewhere and save on the costs of flight and a car rental if I could. My two favorite mountain destinations within driving distance are the Adirondacks upstate and White Mountain in New Hampshire.
Maybe a I’m a bit posh in my tastes, but I don’t think it’s asking too much for a secluded cottage/cabin/chalet to have a fireplace, high speed internet access, and a hot tub. Oh and a mountain view where every window you look out of resembles a post card. See? I’m barely asking for a roof here.
Apologies for using the word “posh” by the way. I’ve been watching a lot of British shows lately.
Anyhoo, while these kinds of cabin rentals are a dime a dozen in Tennessee (and Colorado), they’re pretty hard to come by in places like the Adirondacks or the White Mountain region, at least where they’re not insanely priced. I’ve seen plenty of rentals in Colorado for less than $200 a night, but they seem to START at $400 a night in places like Lake Placid, which is one of my favorite destinations in upstate New York. And those are just the ones where the only view you get is a thick, winding forest that looks like something out of Middle Earth.
Boo to that. I see enough trees every day, it’s the MOUNTAINS I want. Big, sweeping views of purple mountains above fruited plains, and all that jazz. Maybe some kind soul living in New England or upstate New York (yeah, you know who you are) can point me to some lodging possibilities for under $200 a night? This war weary traveling soul would thank you and bring you chocolates if I can. :-D
