No, seriously, I REALLY hate Microsoft (which even now still doesn’t get it like Apple)

One of the things I’ve been experimenting around with lately was finding a better workflow to upload photos to my blog from my rich Flickr library.  Using my MacBook I discovered that by adding my Flickr account to Aperture/iPhoto, I could access my Flickr sets like it was a normal folder on my drive.  REALLY useful, and saves me the trouble of having to otherwise open my browser to visit Flickr directly, dig for the photo I want, and then if I want to avoid hotlinking it, I’d have to download the photo, then re-upload it AGAIN to my WordPress media library.  So I’m thinking hey if Apple can do this, I’m sure Microsoft has PLENTY of options where I can access my Flickr photos like normal files on my hard drive as well!

Yeah, no.  Constant googling turned up only two apps that could supposedly do that.  One wouldn’t even install, and the second installed my Flickr account as a virtual drive that wouldn’t even show up properly.  Oh, did you think Windows’ native Photo Gallery could do the trick?  LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Yeah, there’s an hour or two of my time that I’ll never get back again.  I’m getting more and more convinced that my next desktop computer is either going to be an iMac or a Mac Pro.

Microsoft. Moving forward by bringing you the worst of AOL.

In the Win/Mac wars, I’m a non-combatant. I grew up with an Apple II+, switched to a PC in college, then had an iMac/OS X and WinPC side by side. I eventually went with the WinPC, primarily for the larger software development effort (read: moar gamez!1!!)

The Mac felt like a straight jacket. If you were doing what was expected, everything was roses. If you did something unexpected, you were obviously mistaken and wanted to do what was expected, instead. Oh, you mean you really want to do that? Good people don’t do that. Are you sure you wouldn’t want to do this instead? Etc.

I think of the WinPC as a crotchety old man that grumbles about everything, but is more flexible (This obviously doesn’t apply to Win8). The Mac is an HR lady that’s sweetness and light as long as you’re doing what she thinks you should, and tries to make you feel like you’re strangling puppies otherwise.

Bottom line, if the Mac does what you’re wanting to do, knock yourself out.

With the trend away from software ownership (What?! You want to run your software when you’re NOT logged into our servers?! You fool! I won’t allow it!!!) I’m likely to be heading for Linux. I’ve got a CS degree. I’ll write my own stinkin’ code. And it will be MINE!

I for one enjoy being in my Apple prison. It’s so comfy here…

The irony is that my workflow is being done in a way that doesn’t immediately make sense and seems atypical (after all my iPhotos and Flickr library are mostly identical). BUT, my Flickr photos are already optimized and re-sized for web use, so it’s easier to just use those instead for a blog post. Only Apple provided a solution there. But then again when it comes to the ease of organizing/editing photos and vids, Apple pretty much rules the roost.

Gaming/Media Center is the only thing keeping me on a Windows desktop, but that might change once I get familiar enough with Bootcamp. Too bad Apple doesn’t have a decent native DVR setup like Windows though.

I am completely the opposite. I grew up using MS/DOS and moved through every iteration of Windows up through today. I HATE HATE WINDOWS 8. But use it on my PC at home. I NEVER touched an Apple product until I got an iPad 1 back in 2010. Then it was ON, Kool-Aid drank and I have not looked back! Since I have a job that requires me to use Microsoft Products (SQL Server, Visual Studio) I installed a VM on my MacBook and comfortably switch between Mac and Windows, but I PREFER Mac far and away above Windows, even the venerable Windows 7. I am a complete Apple fanboy now, I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPad Mini, and iPhone 5. I am sure when the new Maxi Pad comes out I will get one of those as well!

Found your blog when I used the same hashtag (MicrosoftSucks) on Facebook!

It started when I got the iPod Touch, which I used to tether to a Windows Mobile phone.

Let me tell you, using a Windows Mobile phone guaranteed that I would never use anything ever again whatsoever that has the word Microsoft on it. When the iPhone finally came out on Verizon, the first thing I did was take that phone and drive over it several times just to make sure it could never be used again. My Lord.

Then it was the MacBook, then the iPad. I shall only need a Mac Pro/iMac and the circle will then be complete. *thumbs up*

What do you use as a VM, Bootcamp? I may need a solution for that myself once I upgrade my MacBook, so I can still game in it on occasion. :-D

Luisrr, or maybe you’re a clueless crapstain who just arrived here after fapping off to tranny porn for three hours and now feel compelled to troll an old thread while stuffing your larded up face with cheetos? Could be that too…

I’m having to take up supporting a linux server at work, and I’m toying with the idea of setting up a linux OS at home to get used to it. With more games being developed for Linux, and the privacy issues involved with Apple/MS, I’m thisclose to switching. I’d have to listen to my wife bitch about how our email at home is different from her email at work, though.

All this talk about Linux, MS and Apple reminds me of this classic Matrix spoof:

Ubuntu? I’m going to learn… Ubuntu? LOL

Do not be so… cautious and pessimistic :D My husband switched to Linux before we even started dating and we only have Linux at home now. I’ve soon grown accustomed to it and I’m not the most technologically savvy of women. If I adapted, I’m sure your wife will, as well.

Wow, a woman who can dig Linux? You really are a one of a kind. O_O
